I plan on buying a Traverse LS with the trailer package to tow my trailer (camper) across the States.

Do you have any similar experience with your Traverse?
=> does it sway pulling this type of trailer
=> does it pull it's weight going across mountains (like the Rockies or similar)?

Thanks,

I'm planning the same thing. Pennsylvania to Arizona next fall. Picking up a new Traverse this afternoon. Hoping
it will tow my 3300 lb. camper OK. I'll be interested in reading your responses.

When will you be pulling? Will you test it soon with your trailer?

I have had a Traverse for one year. I plan on buying a camper in the next few weeks. I want the Wildwood 26BH, dry weight of 3800 lbs. So I too am looking for the answer.

I want to get the camper dealer to let me test tow the camper first.

Seems everyone is in the same situation => much hope on the technical specs but no real experience.

Let's keep in touch with all the experience gathered. And if there are anyone out there that have already pulled such equipment (3,800 lbs camper trailer) let us know.

I will be towing a TADA travel trailer(2300lbs. dry weight, 3300lbs. loaded.) I don't have any plans to try it till this spring. Im in North Central PA and we have about 8 inches of snow on the ground and another 8 inches coming by Sat. morning.

You should look at other posts before asking a questions about towing..... if you read towing confusion you will see that I did the 9 western states without problems..... LOL well it towed great but opps a couple of mishaps...

happy towing... you will get a big gas bill and a lot of fun... ;-)

We have a 2010 LTZ and we just picked up a new camp trailer this weekend. The trailer is 19' and weighs 4200 lbs dry. We do have the weight distribution hitch and trailer brakes. It handles the weight just fine. I wish it had a little more horsepower though, we went over a small mountain range and it was slow going during the steep parts. I think I am going to try tightening the hitch torsion bars one more link the next time we take the trailer out to try and get some weight off the rear tires also. Hope this helps!

Not as big a gas bill as if I'd tow it with my Sliverado 2500HD I'd wager.

In reply to royroger66, I did read all existing posts including Towing confusion before opening this new one. Although you do mention you drove through 9 western states, you do not mention anything about going over mountains which is specifically the subject of my post. With over 40 years of trailer pulling, pulling a trailer over the Rockies is something completely different than pulling it on flat terrain, whatever the distance may be. The Towing confusion post discusses more on the caracteristics, and capacities of a Traverse not equipped with a trailer package and what to do to improve its capabilities. I believe my post is still not fully answered as nobody on all existing posts really pulled a 4200lbs trailer over the Rockies or similar mountains. I'm still interested in sharing this type of experience with anyone pulling a similar trailer in these conditions.

Is your Traverse equipped with the Trailer package?

While I don't have any first hand experience to share with you, I had similar questions so I read some of the other Lambda sites and what I gathered was they were only strained under the the most extreme grades and altitudes. I hope this helps.

Glad to hear you do have the towing package, especially if you're going over the Rockies in the summer. Those mountain passes will kill a transmission under that kind of load. Here's another hint though--use the manual feature of the transmission when going up a steeper grade. Even if you're doing 70 MPH you can shift into "L" and the DIC will read "4" instead of "L". Now you're in 4th gear and can manually shift the transmission into a higher gear from there (5th or 6th) if the terrain flattens out enough.
